The Fisher Educational Development Trust was established to secure ownership of Government College Umuahia, restore it as a citadel of excellence and ensure its good management and funding in a sustainable way.
We intend to restore GCU to the status of a world class institution, rooted in GCU’s timeless values and equipped with an education for 21st-century leadership.
On December, 22nd 2014, a Deed of Trust was signed with the Abia state government, thereby vesting the Trust with all legal interests, rights and power pertaining to ownership, management, operation, control and funding of Government College Umuahia. The Trust is duly registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission, Abuja in line with the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
The Government College Umuahia was founded by Reverend Robert Fisher on January 29, 1929 when he opened the gates of the school to 25 students drawn from all parts of Nigeria and West Africa, but with catchment in Eastern Nigeria, and the Southern Cameroons.
